How To Insure Your Jewelry
Step #1: You will need an appraisal of your jewelry.
What is an Appraisal?
An appraisal describes your jewelry in detail with their appropriate replacement value for insurance.
Quality Gem Jewelry -
As a courtesy to our customers we offer free appraisals on Quality Gem jewelry pieces. Please contact us for a free appraisal.
Other Jewelry -
We can appraise any jewelry you want insured, including antiques, watches and even flatware.
Is it up to date?
If you have an appraisal that is more than 3 years old you will want to make sure your jewelry is priced at the current market value, especially with the recent increase in gold prices.
Who Does the Appraisals?
Not just anyone can appraise jewelry correctly. A person who has studied diamonds and gemstones at the Gemological Institute of America and passed all requirements earns the degree of Graduate Gemologist (G.G.). Quality Gem is lucky to have two Graduate Gemologists on staff.
Step #2: Choose an insurance company.
Home Owners’ Insurance Companies:
You can often insure your jewelry on the same policy as your home, however, be careful. Every insurance company has a different policy for jewelry replacement. If you are going to insure with your homeowners make sure you get all the details first.
Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company:
We endorse and use this company because their ONLY business is insuring jewelry. Jewelers Mutual covers any jewelry mishap including loss, theft, and damage with no deductible.
With Jewelers Mutual, if you ever have a claim, the company would notify us and we would repair or replace it. Also, any jewelry losses you claim will not affect your home owner’s policy. To learn more about Jewelers Mutual go to insureyourjewelry.com or stop in our store for a brochure.
The Cost:
We can’t say how much it would cost to insure through your homeowners but we can give you an example with Jewelers Mutual. In Connecticut the fee is $1.25 per $100 of value. So, to insure $4,000 worth of jewelry the cost would only be $50 per year.
Step #3:
Send your appraisal and payment.
With Jewelers Mutual once you mail, fax or email your appraisal you are insured. Then you can enjoy wearing your jewelry worry free.
